Buffalo Bill Cody Wild West

Official Show Program, 1884

with Super RARE Original Insert

We recently acquired Three ORIGINAL Historical 19th Century programs for Buffalo Bill's Wild West.   One from the 1884 Season and Two for the first and second halves of the 1893 season.

This is the Very RARE 1884 Season with the Incredibly RARE Original Insert.   The 1893 Season Sow programs are also offered here on CVtreasures and can be seen below under, "Other Rare Vintage Treasures You Might Like".

Note:  These are some of the earliest surviving Buffalo Bill Wild West Show programs that we have ever acquired since we started collecting historical artifacts in 1980.   Most that appear on the market are from the early 20th century.   Bill Cody's first show was in 1883, so this is for his second season.  The show would run for 30 more years. There are very few of these 1880's programs in existence.

If you appreciate historical artifacts and in particular the Wild West of the mid and late 19th century, here is a most exciting piece  of history.  With spectacular color artwork on front and back cover.   Filled with 32 Pages of amazing historical illustrations and fascinating stories of the Wild West era

Rare historical program for Buffalo Bill's Wild West for the 1884 season.    This was only the second season of Buffalo Bill's Wild West with Nate Salsbury as a partner.   A historic run that would last another 30 years

Size: 6x8.5"

Buffalo Bill's Wild West program and Super-RARE Insert for the 1884 Season.

Buffalo Bill's Wild West program and Insert for 1884. Buffalo Bill's Wild West. Hartford, CT: The Calhoun Printing Company, 1884. 8vo, chromolithographed paper wraps, 16 pages (some edge wear, occasional staining, contents toned, otherwise very good). The program represents the second season of Buffalo Bill's Wild West with Nate Salsbury as a partner. It is plentifully illustrated with scenes featuring Cody, Frank North, and expert shotgun shooter, A.H. Bogardus.

The Rare Buffalo Bill Cody Program Insert

This Rare Bill Cody Wild West Show program comes with the Super-Rare  5 1/2 x 8 1/2 in. printed Insert that was originally placed in the larger Buffalo Bill's Wild West program for 1884 described above (insert in very fine condition). The obverse features a lithographed portrait of Buffalo Bill; reverse features the full program for the show with events including the grand parade, grand equestrian entree, a Pony Express exhibition, shooting demonstrations by Captain Bogardus and his 4 sons, a stage coach attacked by Native Americans, a buffalo chase by Cody and Pawnee Indians, and a Native American attack on a settler's cabin with a rescue by Cody and his men. Also known as "tip ins," the inserts were often used by the Wild West. The show sometimes charged a few pennies for the insert and 10-20 cents for a full program. Together, 2 items, including the 1884 program and Rarely seen Insert for Buffalo Bill's Wild West.

I was only able to find One of these for sale online, but that one is in very poor condition with significant damage and tape repairs.  You will be hard pressed to EVER find one in such astonishing 140 year old Condition.    I suspect if this were ever professionally graded the value and market price would skyrocket!

Condition:   Front and back cover are in extraordinary condition with just minor edge wear.  The 140 year old cover is Still attached and in quite remarkable condition   Unlike most of these that appear on the market, the cover has No tape, no missing pieces, no tears or stains.  And the inside is even more impressive, with just the antique sepia patina you would expect from a 140 year old historical document.   A once in a Lifetime Find!   And with the Ever More Elusive Original Insert, makes this a most Impressive Piece of History to Own!
