Civil War Tintype Photo Of Union Soldier
                                       Displaying A Massive Revolver

                                                   Circa 1860s

In my 35 years collecting Civil War photos,  this is one of the most impressive Tintypes I’ve ever seen.  As you can see from the enlargeable images above and below the quality is particularly extraordinary.  After seeing thousands of tintypes it is evident that 95% have significant condition issues including darkening, blurriness,  Corrosion, image fading, Bending or Warping, etc.  As you can see this image does have crazing and there are a few loose flakes but look at the crisp contrast and breath-taking tonality.   Typically tintypes don’t capture details like facial feature and weapon characteristics.  But here his face is incredibly real life-like and the gun's details so exceptional it can easily be identified.

One of the best we've ever discovered. A Gem of a find!

Rare and original, 1860’s Civil War Sixth Plate Cased Tintype Photograph of an armed, Union Soldier displaying a massive revolver across his chest!! This outstanding, period Tintype Photograph measures approx. 2 5/8” by 3 1/4” and is housed in what appears to be its original, pressed leather covered hard case.

The Tintype is a wonderful, 3/4 length, seated portrait of the Soldier wearing light colored trousers, a nine button shell jacket and a slouch hat. He holds the grip of a revolver in his right hand and displays the massive firearm across his chest. Neither the soldier nor the photographer is identified in any way however, the soldiers uniform leads us to believe that he served in the Western Theater.

This very rare and wonderful, Civil War Tintype Portrait of an armed Union Army Soldier is in very good condition. The focus is sharp, the contrast strong and the tonality rich and warm. The emulsion exhibits significant crazing and there are a few loose flakes as can be seen in the scans below. The Tintype is housed in what appears to be its original, pressed leather covered hard case which is intact and sound and exceptionally well preserved with very light wear only.

A very rare and wonderful, 1860’s Civil War Sixth Plate Cased Tintype Photograph of an armed, Union Soldier displaying a massive revolver across his chest is one of the most impressive quality Civil War tintypes we've ever seen!
